The Structure

At the outset of the engagement, firms identify mid- to senior-level associates who have been identified as potential future leaders within the organization to join a Pearl Legal Advisory peer coaching cohort. We then help firms launch peer advisory groups of no more than 12 participants per cohort. Each cohort will receive six two-hour peer advisory sessions focusing on action-planning, accountability, and building the essential skills participants need to become influential leaders.

Participants will learn:

  • The essential building blocks of a successful peer advisory model
  • Rules of engagement for creating a high-performance coaching group
  • Coaching techniques for professional development
  • How to identify and address obstacles that are in the way of your growth
  • How to implement peer advisory within your organization
  • How to nurture a psychologically safe environment

By the third month of the incubation period, firms will identify attorneys from within the cohorts to continue facilitating the groups after the initial six-month period wraps. Please note that two-hour sessions are required during the initial six months while Pearl Legal Advisory facilitators lead the cohorts. While firms are encouraged to maintain that cadence, they may find one hour sessions are sufficient following the incubation stage.

In addition, the following fundamental 90-minute training sessions are required for all participants:

  • How to create culture of psychological safety to facilitate high-quality communication (this includes feedback and hard conversations)
  • Executive presence
  • A train the trainer session to teach members how to run peer advisory groups in perpetuity

Participants will receive a comprehensive peer advisory guide and training on how to facilitate the groups in perpetuity. Following the initial six-month launch stage, your firm’s internal peer advisory leaders will also receive access to Pearl Legal Advisory facilitators in three group calls to allow for issue processing and coaching support.

Pearl Advisory clients have access to additional training opportunities at a special rate on topics including business development, presentations, media training and narrative leadership.

Research by the National Association for Law Placement pegs the cost of replacing an associate at between $200,000 and $500,000. Investing in this human-led, human-centered program is an investment in your firm’s continuity and connectivity.
